Made to Fit – because your comfort needs are unique

Whether you need a riser recliner for mobility, health conditions, or simply to enjoy leaning back and putting your feet up at the end of a long day, there are several benefits to having your chair ‘fitted’ to your size, body shape and weight. Why? Because we’re all different aren’t we? Different heights, different length of legs, weight!

Enjoy Sitting In Perfectly Supported Comfort

Sitting down causes a number of stresses in our bodies, especially our spines, and this has recently begun to be more recognised by health professionals. It is the main reason for the sudden boom of rise and recliner chairs is because as a result there are many rise and recliner chairs on the market but few are made to fit. A fitted chair has been designed to best support your body, including considerations like posture, comfort, support and health.

How long do you spend seated?

There are serious health implications of prolonged sitting, and why this is a cause for concern for those who spend more than thirty hours sitting. If you have a condition, then there could be significant benefits to selecting the right rise and recline movements and chair style.

7 Point Seat Fitting Consultation

Choice is about ensuring that you select the right combination of chair style, seat cushion, rise recliner mechanism and having the chair built to your specific dimensions. The correct size of chair will ensure that you purchase a riser recliner that truly delivers personal comfort for you, because you are unique.

1. Seat Depth – to ensure your thighs are well supported

2. Seat Height – good posture requires your feet to be placed firmly on the ground

3. Back Height – important if you have back issues, neck, spinal or vertebrae problems

4. Back Support – back cushion selection will help with your posture and comfort

5. Seat Width – the correct width will help to support your hips and arms

6. Seating Support – your weight’s important and is critical to the cushion selection

7. Elbow Height – arms should be able to rest comfortably on the armrest

The measurements ensure your new chair is set-up for you based on your body shape, size and dimensions. Whilst considering any healthcare medical problem affecting your comfort.

All riser recliner chairs follow a similar movement cycle, from standing to upright (sitting) and then back to full recline with leg elevation, and back again. This is why we recommend you get a professional 7 point seat fitting.

Riser Recliner Chair Movements Explained

Different mechanisms provide the smooth movement and functionality to suit your comfort requirements and the space available. Whether you need a riser recliner for mobility, health conditions, or simply to enjoy leaning back and putting your feet up at the end of a long day, the variety of movement options are designed to suit your individual needs.

There are many options when purchasing a riser recliner, so here’s a simple guide to finding your ideal chair.

Tilt-in-space movements

A benefit of tilt-in-space chairs is that there is no ‘back shearing’, or movement of clothes because the backrest does not separate from the seat like a usual riser recliner. Instead, the entire chair tips back on a strong rocker mechanism. Tilt-in-space chairs naturally elevate your legs above your pelvis and aid poor leg circulation, and other related ailments where a relief of pressure on the legs is favourable.

Single Motor Tilt-in-Space

Great comfort plus good for circulation and pressure relief as the users ankles elevate higher than the hips.

Single motor riser recliner chairs elevate the footrest and recline the backrest in one smooth motion. A typical footrest rise of 45 degrees can be expected, as this is a comfortable position for reading and watching television.

Tilt in Space Dual Motor

Dual motor tilt-in-space models offer the greatest flexibility for back and leg rest positions. The motors can work together to maintain a 85 degree back angle, or can work separately to create a fully reclined position.

Single Motor Wall Hugger

Wall huggers are ideal for rooms that have a premium on space. Rather than recline backwards, the backrest slides forwards in the chair frame, allowing the chair to be placed closer to walls and other furniture.

Designed for smaller spaces, it moves through the same motions as the Single Motor Tilt-in-Space but can operate in less space as it does so by cleverly operating over its own axis.

Standard Dual Motor

Dual motor riser recliner chairs allow the backrest and footrest to move independently as there is one motor for each of them. You can tailor your position, so being sat upright while having the footrest elevated is possible and vice versa.

Because this movement offers independent leg rest and back rest functions. Seat box remains static inline with the arms during recline, offers independent back rest, ankle almost lifted to level of hip.

Plus Size Rise and Recline Chairs

Your weight is an important factor, it helps with the selection of the seat cushion and your overall comfort. Your weight also affects the movement options, which are built to different weight ranges.

You are unique, so your chair needs to be too!

If you need a ‘plus size rise and recline chair’ which needs to support extra weight and is made-to-measure so it has the correct seat depth, height, width and foot rest position essential to your comfort – we can help. Almost all of our chairs can be adapted to plus sizes with bariatric chair strength and durability, supporting up to 70 stone (445kg) with an impressive 22 stone (140kg) leg lift.

Support with Standing

The cleverly designed lifting mechanism in our plus size rise and recline chairs, brings the user into a standing position in a controlled and steady manner. Making our Bariatric riser recliners perfect for those who require steady movement.

What Does Bariatric Mean?

You may have heard the term “bariatric,” but what does it really mean?

Well, if you do a quick Google search, you will find that bariatric means “relating to or specialising in the treatment of obesity.” When you hear the term “bariatric” being used in a medical setting, it is referring to the treatment, prevention, and causes of obesity.

Obesity is a serious health condition classified by excess body fat that can greatly affect your health. It is linked to a long list of chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, sleep apnoea, osteoporosis, and strokes.

A person is classified as having obesity and may be referred to as a bariatric patient when they have a body mass index (BMI) that is equal to or greater than 30. BMI is used to measure weight in relation to height.

Obesity classes are then determined by what range your BMI falls into. Class 1 obesity encompasses BMIs of 30-34.9, Class 2 as 35-39.9, and Class 3 as 40 and above. The higher your BMI, the higher your risk for developing chronic diseases.

The field of bariatrics focuses on and treats those who have obesity to promote weight loss and increase overall health with diet, exercise, and behaviour therapy. When thinking of bariatrics, you may think of bariatric surgery, which is also known as metabolic or weight-loss surgery.

Although this may be a common reference, the term “bariatric” does not always mean surgery.

Bariatric can refer to items that are created for obese individuals to best suit their needs. For example, a bariatric scale is a scale that is specially made for individuals that have obesity. Other bariatric devices are specialty crafted to provide ease and comfort and can be used to move, assist, and aid bariatric patients.
